Work Permit (LMIA Bassed)

What is an LMIA-Based Work Permit?
An LMIA-Based Work Permit is an authorization issued by Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) that enables a Canadian employer to hire a foreign worker for a specific job in Canada, provided the employer has secured a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).

Who Can Apply?
To be eligible for an LMIA-Based Work Permit, you generally need to:

  • Have a valid job offer from a Canadian employer who has received a positive LMIA for the position.
  • Possess the required qualifications, skills, and experience for the job.
  • Meet program requirements, including demonstrating that you will leave Canada at the end of your authorized stay and that you have strong ties to your home country.
  • Fulfill Canadian immigration admissibility criteria, such as good health, security clearance, and a clean criminal record.

When to Apply?
You should apply for an LMIA-Based Work Permit as soon as you have a valid job offer and the employer has obtained a positive LMIA. It is advisable to begin the application process early to ensure ample time for processing.
